Diani Turtle Watch (DTW)
Diani Turtle Watch, started in 2012 to respond to the need for turtle conservation in Diani now works with a team of 14 turtle conservation monitors on the ground, covering an area from Waa to Funzi Island (+- 50km) in the South Coast of Kenya. The turtle monitors are up early every morning surveying the beach to spot any turtle nesting activities, mortality and turtle stranding cases throughout the day.
The main turtle species found in this area are the green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and the hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) with the green turtles being predominant.
Diani Turtle Watch is based out of the Marine Education Centre within the Sands at Nomad Resort where it endeavours to educate and create awareness to both the local communities, schools and tourists about the species being endangered on a global scale hence the need to conserve them.
